Let’s just say my trip to Columbus, Indiana, last weekend was a great success. The weather was beautiful, the people were friendly, and the buildings, well, the buildings exceeded my every expectation. Though I'm still (slowly) sorting through my photographs from the trip, I'll be dedicating the next few posts to my favorite Columbus sites- more specifically my favorite buildings that were NOT designed by a Saarinen.
Why no Saarinens? Because the iconic buildings designed by Eliel and Eero (like the Miller House or First Christian Church) need little explanation. They will be the first landmarks you visit when you step out of the car in Columbus, and the last structures you wave to on your way out of town. But there is just so much other great architecture packed into this little Midwestern mecca, so I'll be sharing my favorites soon enough. Stay tuned for more Columbus next week.

This initiative led to Athens having an unusually high number of buildings designed by renowned architects, making it a mecca for architectural enthusiasts and earning it the nickname Athens of the Prairie.
