We are celebrating Richard Neutra's birthday all week here at claass HAUS, so if you are just joining us, make sure you check out Monday's post on the iconic Kaufmann House in Palm Springs. If you happen to be caught up on the Kaufmann House and are still dreaming about that pool (I know I am), don't worry about booking a trip to California just yet. I have the next best thing. Today, I offer seven objects that will give you the "Slim Aarons at the Kaufmann House" look without having to buy your own Palm Springs estate. Perfect for spring, these beauties will deliver that classic CaliMOD vibe you've always wanted. 1966 Collection Adjustable Chaise Yes, these are expensive. But, yes, they are beautiful. And classic. And perfect in every way. Designed by Richard Schultz for Florence Knoll, who wanted to commission an outdoor furniture set that would actually last, this chaise lounge was part of the original Knoll Leisure Collection. Well, Ms. Knoll got her wish- this piece stands the test of time. Available at Design Within Reach, $2,965. 1966 Collection Porcelain Serving Cart There isn't an outdoor bar cart more perfect than this one. Same collection by Richard Schultz (see above). Available at Design Within Reach, $2,937. Neutra Modern House Numbers Full disclosure, these are the numbers on my own house, so I'll admit my bias, but you should probably get these if you don't have them already. In 2001, House Industries partnered with the Neutra estate to produce a set of fonts based on the architect's own letterforms. Neutraface was the result. Available in aluminum (shown), black, or brass at Design Within Reach, $27-39 each. Slim Aarons: Women by Laura Hawk (2016) You've seen the Slim Aarons: Once Upon A Time book on every coffee table for the past ten years. Get this one instead. Why? The cover. (It's the Kaufmann House!) Available on Amazon, $41.89. Eames Molded Plywood Dining Chair (DCM) Dating to 1946, the same year as the Kaufmann House, the DCM started as an experiment in the Eames' apartment and ended up the chair that built a design empire. Perfect for Palm Springs/EVERYWHERE. Available at Hive Modern, $825. Arro Planters Made by PAD Outdoors in L.A., these planters were designed by Eli Bonerz for his own Neutra home. Available at A+R, $32-240. Paulistano Outdoor Armchair
Kind of a wild card, but I love this chair, especially in white and black. Created by Brazilian designer Paulo Mendes da Rocha in 1957, the chair was originally designed for the Paulistano Athletic Club in Sao Paolo. Available at Design Within Reach, on sale now for $1,032. That does it for today, but we have one more day of Neutra week, so stay tuned. Until then, I hope lounging by a beautiful pool is in your near future.
