A quick note on Marion Mahony Griffin. Architect Marion Mahony Griffin was born on this day in 1871. I didn't have time this week to write a proper post (apologies), but I couldn't let this day go by without acknowledging one of the most talented architects of the early twentieth century. Sure, Mahony will be forever intertwined with the men in her life- boss Frank Lloyd Wright and husband Walter Burley Griffin (another Wright acolyte)- but it's Mahony we really have to thank for shaping how we see and understand Prairie Style architecture. (You know those romantic watercolor renderings of Wright-designed residences you see everywhere? That was Mahony).
So Happy Birthday to Marion Mahony Griffin and Happy Valentine's Day to all you #archilovers. See you next week! Photograph at top: David and Hattie Amberg House. Historic American Buildings Survey. Courtesy of the Library of Congress.
